GetResponse is easy to use, scales easily, and makes it really easy to design good looking emails. Many email platforms can boast the same features but I have found the most reliability, deliverability, and ease of use with Get Response. GR also has a funnel builder and landing page creator which are great but I feel contribute to GR’s higher cost and aren’t always a good fit for every business. ServiceTitan is a CRM meant specifically for home service industry businesses (HVAC, plumbing, roofing, etc.). ServiceTitan has a built-in email marketing platform called Marketing Pro that is great for sending email blasts or drip sequences. Because it is built out within the CRM much of the process can be automated.
Like ServiceTitan, Hubspot is a CRM, however, it is not designed specifically for home service industry experts. Hubspot’s email marketing platform is very intuitive and customizable. Like ServiceTitan, you can run automated drip sequences.
MailChimp is not a CRM and it is made specifically for email marketing. We use this for clients who are not on a CRM. It’s great for customizable email blasts and there are automation features, but it’s not as intuitive or well-rounded as Hubspot and ServiceTitan.
Over the last year and a half, I hopped from email platform to email platform trying to find the best one. Transferring my customer emails, updating the templates, and trying out the new features along the way. A few of the ones I have used are Mail Chimp, Omnisend, Spring Bot, and Klayvio.
And after a few months on each one, I can without a doubt say that Klaviyo is by far the leader and anyone with a small business should be using it. If you talk to any respectable agency, they’ll recommend it as well for its robust features and advanced segmentation.

This tells me they’re interested and most likely ready to buy, and that’s a good segment to shoot a hefty discount to as an incentive to make that first purchase.
There is no one size fits all email platform for small businesses. It’s likely you’ll need 3 different platforms to solve three important aspects of your business in a sales and marketing capacity.
You’ll need Replyify.com for your sales and business development team to email contacts who have NOT opted in. A cold email automation platform is critical for any B2B business. The alternative to using something like Replyify is that your sales team with either a) waste time manually sending intro and follow-up emails one by one or b) they won’t send enough outbound emails which will limit your revenue potential.
You’ll also need something like Mailchimp to handle your lead and nurture emails. Mailchimp requires that anyone you email must be opted in which is why you need Replyify which will manage your cold emails. You’ll use Mailchimp for designing HTML templated newsletters, announcements, content promotion and branding.
If your business processes payments or is gated requiring clients to ‘log in’ to access content, then you’ll need a transactional email platform like Sendgrid or AWS. This platform will send your account confirmation emails, password reset emails and payment confirmations.

I was using MailChimp for a bit, but recently switched to Klaviyo and I’m so glad I did. My favorite quality about them is their in-depth customization options and segmentation. This is an amazing marketing tool – you can easily target different groups of people with different emails.
Plus, pricing is good for small businesses. I pay $100 monthly for about 5,000 subscribers. The MailChimp premium plan is $300 for 10k subscribers, and you don’t even get as much customization as Klaviyo. Plus, Klaviyo lets you send unlimited emails until you hit 50k subscribers. If you send a lot of emails, this can definitely be more cost-effective in the long run.
Between Vapeclubmy and HUSTLR, we’ve experimented with various email platforms, and we have a pretty good idea on which is best depending on the scale of your business.
If you run a highly profitable site and email marketing makes up a significant portion of your revenue, we can’t recommend Klaviyo enough. Their UX is very robust and allows for precise customization, on top of fantastic automated flows with deep API support to allow for things like personalized emails, where the email can include items in a customer’s cart, their last purchase, and so on.
If you run a blog or an online course, Drip will be your best bet. While they aren’t as e-commerce centric as Klaviyo, Drip is still very competent in its own right with easily customizable flows, robust performance, and is far more affordable than Klaviyo.
This is the perfect option for new businesses or if you’re just starting out with email marketing and you have a limited budget. With easy drag-and-drop tools, a beginner-friendly UX, anyone can get started with email marketing using Mailchimp. The only caveat here is that they’ve recently split ways with Shopify, and will no longer be supported on the Shopify platform.
I would recommend MailerLite for small businesses. Mostly because it’s the cheapest option out there! MailerLite lacks some of the jazzier features found in high-end email programs like ActiveCampaign, but it still has sold automation options and basic segmenting.
I do run into some bug issues from time to time, but for the most part it’s an affordable way to build a decent-sized email list and get your feet wet with email marketing without destroying your budget.

Emails are very easy to set up, the pricing each month for our list size is minimal vs the sales we track from our email promotions going out. Personally I’d recommend MailChimp or Klaviyo, though I think Klaviyo is a superior service. Klaviyo is also more geared towards eCommerce. If you’re a brick and mortar business I think MailChimp is the best option. If you’re an ecom business or sell items online, specifically through Shopify I think Klaviyo is the better option as it syncs to your store and shows you how much money your emails are making in real time, can send abandoned cart emails to your customers, there’s just a ton of functionality.
On the other hand if you’re a brick and mortar store, a service business, or a gym or something along those lines and the nature of your emails is just going to be stop in to the store or we’re having this sale then I think MailChimp is probably the better option.
The main email marketing platform that I would recommend would be Hubspot. You can easily create and personalise your marketing emails without the need of a designer or IT. The platform also allows you to draft email campaigns that look professionally designed for any device. Hubspot also gives you the option to choose a pre-designed template that is proven to convert. With so many articles mentioning personalisation, it’s great to know there’s a platform out there that will help small businesses be part of the trend. Like a few other email platforms, Hubspot offers a free package but what makes theirs different, is that they offer so much more, including analytics, live chat and social media ads.
I have also had experience using Mailchimp as well. This seems to be quite a common platform for businesses to use. With the option of a free plan to having additional services added to your account that start at $10 a month, it seems to be a good platform at getting through the door of email marketing. Similar to the other platforms, with Mailchimp you can select a predesigned template or customise your own email newsletter from scratch using the drag and drop function. The only issue I’ve found with Mailchimp is that sometimes they lack behind when it comes to new features, which could mean that your competitors could get ahead of you.

For unlimited social scheduling on other platforms (that only do that), you’re looking at least $10/month. Mailchimp gives you multi-channel features for a single-channel price.

This is one of the few email platforms that provides a free plan that starts with 100 subscribers and can go up to 1000 subscribers if you refer people to it. It has good automation, good triggers, and a great delivery rate. ConvertKit doesn’t allow Amazon affiliate links which can be a deal-breaker depending on the type of business for the small business.
